Public statement regarding takedowns against GameChops LLC, and founder Christopher LaBreacht “Dj CutMan” Davidson:

Earlier this month, Materia Music Inc. announced1 the launch of an ongoing takedown initiative against GameChops LLC for hundreds of unlicensed music, covers, remixes, mashups, bootlegs, soundtrack rips, videos, and other unlicensed content that infringes on the rights of Materia and its clients.

Materia exists in service to its ecosystem of fans, creators, musicians, producers, composers, streamers: We have supported thousands of creators by licensing 100k+ covers, remixes, derivative works, recordings, tabs, sheet music, and other creative content. We have cleared millions of YouTube videos with blanket permissions and licenses, in service to content creators. Our team has spent countless hours at companies who have built tools and platforms for the ecosystem (Loudr, CD Baby, DistroKid, YouTube, …).

We are proud of our efforts and advocacy which reaches and delights millions of fans, daily.

If you create cover songs and remixes from our catalog and publish it on YouTube: 99.999% are fine and safe and not subject to takedowns. Our policies outline acceptable usage, but to summarize: get a license before distributing to platforms if you want to monetize, don’t mislead other fans, don’t use AI2. Our biggest goal as rights administrators is blanket clearance and revenue sharing so fans, creators, and original composers/producers can all benefit.

If you are a for-profit record label that has been around for a decade, there are higher expectations.

To the best of our knowledge:

  • GameChops uploaded soundtrack rips and vinyl rips to YouTube, including melodies and recordings that Materia owns or administrates. We don’t permit bootlegs.
  • GameChops created or uploaded 100+ remixes, derivative works, & mashups to YouTube, and other platforms. Special licenses and permission are needed for this.
  • GameChops distributed cover songs to Spotify, Bandcamp, Apple Music, and other commercial music platforms without correct licenses.
  • GameChops did not obtain sample licenses or derivative work licenses for remixes, creating risk and exposure for their artists, and preventing Materia’s composers from being compensated.
  • GameChops did not obtain mechanical licenses for many cover songs, creating risk and exposure for their artists, and preventing Materia’s composers from being compensated.
  • GameChops’s infringements of copyrights, trademarks, name/image/likeness, and other rights appear to go back over a decade. Issues span multiple games, dozens of composers’ and producers’ rights, and many interested parties who own certain copyrights.

GameChops has made tens of millions of dollars from exploiting Materia’s rights alone. We believe that artists, composers, producers should be compensated when their music is used for commercial purposes. Through action and inaction, GameChops disagreed.

Materia has tried to resolve these issues amicably in private with GameChops for over a year. We do not take DMCA or other enforcement action lightly, but this unfortunately became our only viable last resort, as the decision to proceed with enforcement resulted from GameChops’s refusal to accept less drastic options.

Rather than settle the matter privately, Christopher posted a public video on September 13, 2026. There are many omitted details, missing context, and other pieces of information that Materia may share when the time is right.

If you are interested in creating covers, remixes, sheet music, concerts related to video game music and/or our catalog of rights: it is likely available for licensing. Please reach out and allow our team to assist you with your project, while celebrating our composers and musicians. Our licensing team can be reached at licensing@materiamusic.com.

Please note that we cannot comment on prospective litigation matters.
